What is meant exactly by "internship"?
An internship is a work-related learning experience for individuals who wish to develop hands on work experience in a certain occupational field. Most internships are temporary assignments that last approximately three months up to a year. Our programmes involve a minimum work placement length of 4+ weeks. (Please see your chosen course for detailed information)
Can I work full time or part time?
This depends on the course you choose. Some courses involve a period of study followed by a period of work experience and others involve a period of part time work and study at the same time.
What happens on application to the course?
On application to the course you will need to complete the Booking form and send a current CV, including a passport photo to the school.
Will I be interviewed before I start working?
Interviews can be conducted either face to face or over the telephone. You will receive confirmation of acceptance to the Telephone Interview with a Work Placement Coordinator. All students have to pass an interview before being accepted onto the course.
What happens after the interview?
Once the interview has taken place our partners will contact the placement provider for the result of the interview and will then send the result to Castle School and where possible to your e-mail address
What happens on arrival?
On arrival you will be given a Welcome Pack and a designated time to attend a CV and work placement review.
Is a certain language speaking capability needed?
Every job is different and so some jobs do require a greater knowledge of the language. We also try to accommodate people with a more modest command of the language. You should be able to speak English to a strong intermediate or upper-intermediate level.
What type of internships can I choose from?
In principle, all fields of work are open when looking for an internship. Law, journalism, accounting, hospitality, public relations, and marketing are all possibilities. It is very rare that someone desires to work in a field that is too specific and that we are unable to find a fitting internship. In most cases first choice placements can be accommodated, but we always recommend that students try to be as flexible as possible.
Do I pay for the journey and other expenses?
In some cases the company will compensate the intern for some expenses and travel. However, this is solely up to the employer and so one should not expect this to happen.
How high are the chances that I will be working in my dream job?
If we receive your application at an early enough time we will do all we can to find you an internship in the area that you really want. A change of mind at the last moment is not possible. It should also be clear that our local partners are only the medium between the intern and the employer.
When will I know where I am going to work?
We will inform you about where you are going to work as soon as our colleagues inform us about the exact work location. A general rule is that you will know about your work situation at least two weeks before you are asked to start working.
How long does the programme last?
Most internships, work experience placements are from 4 to 24+ weeks.
Do I need a visa?
The EU does not require a visa.
What tasks can I expect to have as an intern?
That depends on the employer and the qualifications and experience that you have. You could often find yourself being busy with administrative duties. It is also probable that the you will take on smaller tasks before you are given any big projects.
Where will I live?
That depends on where we can find a suitable internship. Many participants take it upon themselves to find there own housing. We can also provide homestay accommodation.
Which age group normally takes part in this programme?
Most participants are aged between 18 and 30.
Where will I be working?
Work placements are usually in the Brighton area or London. If you want an internship in a big city like London then you should apply early because there are only a few opportunities open in the big cities.
Is my progress monitored?
Our local partners will endeavour to contact you and the placement provider once each month for feedback on the work placement progress.
What happens if I do not like the internship?
If you do not like the internship then you should notify your work placement coordinator and tell them the reasons why you would like to change.
